Custom Materials and Furnishings

Each of my interior spaces is a one-of-a-kind creation. I develop custom wallcoverings, textiles, rugs and carpets, built-in and freestanding furniture - all specific to client and design requirements. I consider every surface as an opportunity to enhance the overall design aesthetic.

When using products from the Merchandise Mart showrooms I take advantage of all of the available options. Each piece is detailed specifically to suit the particular space and project by altering finishes, materials, colors and dimensions.

Individually designed furniture lets me tailor a piece to the functional requirements of a space while maintaining the design aesthetic.

Custom Kitchens and Baths

Kitchen and bath designs are complex puzzles, which require meticulous attention to detail, precise sizing, maximized use of space, understanding of new technology, access to exciting and unique materials, and up-to-the-minute knowledge of available appliances. Bathrooms and kitchens are today’s new living spaces.

Bathrooms have morphed from tiny, dark, function-only “water closets” to generous spaces with make-up tables, elaborate shower and bathing areas, often incorporating outdoor garden spaces and luxurious indoor furniture.

Kitchens, once relegated to the cook, are now gathering spaces for family and guests. They include spacious eat-in areas, multi-levels, and built-in-everything… even “garages” for small appliances. Clients often select me because of my innovative and unusual kitchen and bath designs. I design kitchens that cook!

Custom Interior Architecture

To up the architectural presence of an interior space, I have designed ceiling coves, wall niches, columns, custom trims and surface treatments. Altering the size or alignment of a doorway, or detailing the often-forgotten floor and ceiling planes are among the many possibilities that I consider to customize the interior architecture. Favorite techniques for making spaces more active and interesting include the use of angles or curves in the layout, and furniture arrangement which does not wrap the walls. Color, texture and light are prime tools for altering a space and making it more compelling.

Custom Lighting

My lighting designs are also site specific. I select and place the lighting equipment to reveal and enhance architectural features, color, texture, and objects and details of importance. Light levels are calculated to provide adequate light for each task to be performed in the space. Dimming and layering maximize flexibility, providing variation of mood and dramatic effect. It's also essential to select the ideal decorative fixtures to enhance the aesthetic and provide appropriate light.
